Counseling

The Student Parent Center is adept with the challenges of being a new, expecting or a seasoned parent. We provide a comprehensive, solutions-driven approach for delivering individualized service to empower each student to make Cal their own, as a engaged scholar and devoted parent.

We understand that extenuating unexpected circumstances arrise and we are prepared to help students find positive solutions to maximize their experiences and remain on a path toward graduation.

The Student Parent Center is devoted to empowering students with a sense of belonging and ownership as members of the UC Berkeley community.

Reduced Course Load Option for Student Parents

The reduced course load option allows for undergraduate student parents to enroll in less than 13 units each semester, and still be considered a full-time student at UC Berkeley.

This option is not mandatory, however if you are considering the impact of a 13 or more units on your family obligations, then we encourage you to meet with Tomie Lenear, to discuss the option in detail before you make a decision.

Graduate students are encourgaed to meet with us as well, although the process of petition for the option is different from undergraduate student parents.

Degree Completion Program: Once a Bear, Always A Bear

The degree completion program is specifically designed to allow access to campus resources for students who have been academically dismissed, timed out to due to financial reasons, and/or other extenuating life circumstances to make the path back to Cal more accessible, feasible, and ultimately complete an undergraduate degree. The Student Parent Center is available to work with students to tailor a plan that would ensure graduation in a timely manner through a combination of readmission and matriculation at Cal, finishing up at CC, or UC extension. For more information please make an appointment with Tomie Lenear.
