Briana Starks attended Evergreen Valley College in San Jose, CA before transferring to the University of California, Berkeley. Following her acceptance of Cal's offer to attend, she and her husband Ashley decided to move their family of four from San Jose to the University Village, which is located approximately three-miles from the Cal Campus. Their daughters, Raquel and Naomi, were three and one at the time, and they were expecting their youngest daughter Bianca.
Briana graduated in the summer of 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. When she was attending Cal, Briana found the Student Parent Center, a tight network of student parent friends, and her husband, to be especially supportive. "I checked in often with the Student Parent Center and had a small network of student parents who cheered me on. I relied on my husband for support."
She is considering graduate school in the near future- but, in the meantime, she is enjoying her position as a counselor at the Cal Student Parent Center because it enables her give back to the community that provided her a solid support system while she was simultaneously negotiating the academic rigor at Cal, parenting, and other adult responsibilities.
