Early Childhood Education Program

UC Berkeley's Early Childhood Education Program (ECEP) provides early child care services to over 200 children (infants to pre-school) of University faculty, staff and students at multiple centers close to campus in Berkeley and Albany.


Head Start Programs

The Student Parent Center partnership with Early Head Start ensures students with priority enrollment for infant, toddler, and pre-school childcare. Early Head Start is designed to give youg children a "head start" on education, while supporting parents in their role as the primary influence in their children's education and development.

Back-Up Child Care for UC Berkeley Students

UC Berkeley has partnered with Bright Horizons to offer students with Back-Up Child Care for a subsidized fee. After successfully registering for Back up Child Care, you will be able to schedule:

  • In-home child care for your well or mildly ill child (up to three of your children at home).
  • Center-based child care at Bright Horizons centers nationwide, including the Bright Horizons Child Care Center at Bayer located in west Berkeley, two miles from campus. More centers are available in the Bay Area and throughout the U.S. through an extended network of child care providers. Not sure? School-Age Care

In Family Housing in Albany:

Enrollment in K-12 in the Albany School District can be completed online: http://www.ausdk12.org/ 

After-School Options in Albany:

  1. University Village Homework Club serves children ages 8-12 (Grades 3-8). Children can receive help with his or her homework in the Community Center. Volunteers and staff are available to assist with arithmetic, reading, composition and science homework.  To register, contact Wendy Ellison at HWClub.UVA@gmail.com
